I am a Democrat because I wish to fulfill the words from John Wesley that my mother shared with me when I was growing up: to do all the good you can for all the people you can. I am following a calling to serve.
Now is the time for citizens to step forward and offer to work for the common good. Great challenges and great opportunities face our nation today. I will be an independent Democrat, and I will have the courage to direct the tough questions to the leaders of both parties, and to seek solutions to the challenges facing America at home and abroad.
Lately Washington has had too many public officials who follow orders from above, and too few who put their duty to the American people above political games. I will be a Congressman who always puts the interests of my constituents ahead of any other consideration.
